New desalination plants for Ios from Watera Hellas

Watera Hellas, a company belonging to the Unibios Group has just signed a contract for the supply and installation of three new desalination plants on the island of Ios.  The contract was signed by the Mayor of the Municipality of Ios, Mr. Gikas Gikas, and the President of Watera Hellas S.A., Mr. Orfeas Mavrikios. 

The three seawater desalination plants with reverse osmosis technology, have a total capacity of 1,080 cubic meters (m3) of drinking water per day, and will meet the island's ever-increasing water supply needs. The contract was signed following an international public electronic tender in which Watera Hellas was elected as the supplier and the financing of this procurement will be made with funds from the "Antonis Tritsis" programme which were secured by the Municipality of Ios.

"The aim of the Municipal Authority is for the continuous upgrading of the basic infrastructure of our island in order to improve the living conditions of residents and visitors. The signing of the contract for the supply and installation of the three new desalination plants is another step in this direction. My dream is that soon abundant and quality drinking water will run from the tap of every house on our island.   On behalf of the Municipal Authority, we hope that the project will be completed as quickly as possible and we are committed to continuing to work consistently to ensure the quality and adequacy of water throughout our island," said Mayor  Mr. Gikas.

For his part, the President of Watera Hellas Mr. Mavrikios noted that: "It is a great pleasure and honor for us to once again be given the opportunity to contribute to addressing the problem of lack of quality drinking water on an island of our country.  The adequacy of quality drinking water that is not only an obvious right of the inhabitants of each island but also a basic condition for its further development.  It is also worth pointing out that all the systems that our company installs, both in our country and abroad, are designed and manufactured in Greece."

In 2010, Watera Hellas had supplied the Municipality of Ios with another desalination plant, with a capacity of 1,000 cubic meters (m3), daily that has been installed and operates in the area of the Helipad. Watera has also supplied and installed in Ios a rapid refining system for filtering the water of the reservoir located in Mylopotas, near the site where the new desalinations will be installed.
