Intrakat signed three new contracts for the construction of Metropolitan Optical Fibre networks with the municipalities of Volos, Leivadia and Argos of a total estimated value of euro 2.40 million (euro 1.33 mil. euro 0.57 mil. and euro 0.49 mil. respectively).
The contracts include the supply, installation and safeguard of the proper operation of the subterranean optical fibre networks infrastructure, of the infrastructure of the active telecommunications equipment and its connectivity to the network, as well as of the wireless and access network infrastructure. The total length of the metropolitan optical fibre networks measures to approximately 32.53 km (19.00 km for the municipality of Volos, 6.28 km for the municipality of Leivadia and 7.25 km for the municipality of Argos). The works are expected to be completed by the end of 2008.
Intrakat currently constructs a significant optical fibre network for various municipalities and private organizations, being a pioneer in the broadband infrastructure development field. The above projects are executed in the framework of the Information Society's Operational Program.
The main objective of the program is the improvement of the citizens' quality of life, in the Greek national region, by implementing integrated information and communication systems in key public sectors such as public administration, health, transportation and environment. In addition the specific technology project is expected to enhance local socioeconomic life by increasing productivity and employment offer.
