The German health care group Asklepios increases its participation in Athens Medical Center Share capital to 30,73% confirming the strategic nature of its investment
Athens Medical Center SA, the largest health care group in Greece and South Eastern Europe and Asklepios Kliniken, the largest health care group in Europe jointly decided to further strengthen their strategic cooperation aiming to further establish the leading position of the former in the health care sector in Greece and Southeaster Europe.
As mentioned in the previous press release, top targets in their joint investment plans are: The further growth of the Company in Greece, the penetration of new highly specialized health care markets, the full exploitation of the owned plots of land in Paiania and Thessaloniki, the potential acquisition of other players in the sector and the further expansion abroad.
Among the top priorities of this strategic cooperation is the creation of synergies, the capitalization of the know-how and expertise of the German group in areas such as cost containment, provision of highly specialized services, PPP structures and privatization projects.
The increased participation in the Athens Medical Center?s share capital is a confirmation of the willingness of Asklepios to proceed with the above in a very short time frame. In addition, the increased participation in the share capital is a result of the excellent cooperation between the two groups during the past few months, the significant growth prospects of Athens Medical Center in the near future, and the trust in the existing management of the company and its top executives.
In autumn this year the Company will announce its new business plan and its specific projects.
The G. Apostolopoulos family currently controls the largest block of shares of 33,34%. The company will be managed by a five-member board of directors. Three members of BoD will be appointed by the G. Apostolopoulos family, including the positions of the Chairman (Dr. George Apostolopoulos) and CEO (Dr. Vassilis Apostolopoulos), and two by Asklepios.
The participation of Asklepios in the company's share capital represents a long term strategic investment aiming at a joint control with G. Apostolopoulos family of 66,67% of the company's share capital.
It is stressed that Asklepios Kliniken currently operates 100 hospital units (94 in Germany and 6 in the USA) and has active presence in China, Russia, Poland and Portugal.
