The Chairman of the Athens Exchange becomes a Member of the Board of Directors of the Federation of European Securities Exchanges (FESE)
Mr. Spyros Capralos, Chairman of the Athens Exchange S.A. (ATHEX), was elected today, 30 November 2005, as member of the Board of Directors of the Federation of European Securities Exchanges (FESE). The elections concerned the five new members of the Board of Directors and were held during the General Assembly of FESE, which takes place in Brussels.
The Board of Directors of FESE is comprised of nine members and the five new members that were elected today, will be Messrs.: S. Capralos, Adam Kinsley (London Stock Exchange), Olivier Lefebvre (Euronext), Axel Nawrath (Deutsche Borse AG) and Attila Szalay - Berzeviczy (Budapest Stock Exchange). Mr.Massimo Capuano has been reelected as Chairman of FESE up to December 2006.
It should be noted that for the first time, a Chairman from a Greek stock exchange participates in the Board of Directors of FESE. Mr. Spyros Capralos, the ATHEX Chairman said after his election: "My election today in the Board of Directors of FESE is a great honor not only for me, but also for the Athens Exchange. The said election recognizes the efforts that are made for the streamlining of the Greek stock exchange, as well as the role that it can play in the development of capital markets of South-eastern Europe. The honor granted to me, reflects the efforts of all the executives of the Athens Exchange, that will be intensified in 2006 also."
The principal objective of the Federation of European Securities Exchanges (FESE) is to represent and promote the common interests of stock exchanges in Europe. The Federation seeks to inform with regard to the decision-making process, on European level, and to influence, whenever that is possible, the European political and legislative proposals, contributing thus in the accomplishment of objectives that concern Capital markets, as these are defined by the Treaties of European Union. The Federation of European Securities Exchanges (FESE) has 25 members, among which, other Stock Exchange unions such as Euronext (Euronext Amsterdam, Euronext Brussels, Euronext Lisbon, Euronext Paris, Euronext.life), OMX Exchanges (Stockholm Stock Exchange, Helsinki Stock Exchange, Copenhagen Stock Exchange, Riga Stock Exchange, Tallinn Stock Exchange, Vilnius Stock Exchange) as well as other European Stock Exchanges (London Stock Exchange, Deutsche Borse AG, etc.).
