Fokion Karavias

Fokion Karavias has been General Manager, since 2005, and a Member of the Executive Board at Eurobank-Ergasias S.A, since 2013. Under his responsibilities are Capital Markets and Wealth Management which include Global Markets, Group Treasury, Eurobank Equities, Private Banking, Asset Management and Institutional Securities Services. In Global Markets, he has the responsibility of Sales and Trading in the region, covering the product offering for sovereign, institutional, corporate, shipping and high net worth private clients. In Wealth Management, he supervises the largest private banking business in Greece, the Group's international private banking in Luxembourg and the leading asset management firm in Greece, with presence in Greece and Luxembourg. Previously, he has been Member of the Group Executive Committee (2005-13) and Deputy General Manager and Treasurer at Eurobank (2001).

He started his career in banking in 1991, at JPMorgan, in New York, where he held an analyst position in the market risk management division. During the period 1994-97, he worked at Citibank, in Athens, responsible for derivative and fixed income business in Greece. In 1997, he joined Eurobank, as head of fixed income and derivatives trading. In 2000-01, he was Treasurer at Telesis Investment Bank, a boutique investment bank focusing to corporate and private banking customers. Following the Telesis acquisition by Eurobank, he re-joined Eurobank in 2001. 

Currently, he is a member of the Board of Directors at a number of Greek and international subsidiaries of Eurobank-Ergasias S.A. He is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Eurobank Asset Management AEDAK S.A. In the past, he was the Chairman of the Board of Directors of DIAS Fund Management S.A., a closed-end investment fund listed in the Athens Stock Exchange. He has also been a non-executive director of the Board of ELMEC S.A., a company listed in the Athens Stock Exchange.

Fokion Karavias holds a Diploma in Chemical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens, a Master's and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania. His Ph.D. thesis was in the area of statistical thermodynamics and gas adsorption. He has also attended the executive education top management program (AVIVA) at INSEAD, in Paris. He has published several papers on topics concerning his academic research. More recently, he has written a number of articles about the Eurozone and Greek sovereign crisis, published in the Greek press. He was born in Athens in 1964.
