Mr. G. Provopoulos appointed Vice-Chairman and Executive Director of Piraeus Bank S.A.
The Board of Directors of Piraeus Bank S.A. met today (18/10/2006) and elected Mr. Georgios Provopoulos as its member, in the capacity of Vice-Chairman and Executive Director of the BoD. Mr. G. Provopoulos shall chair the Group''s Risk Management Committee, and shall supervise the Real Estate and infrastructure divisions (Organization, Operations and IT), as well as the Bank''s equity participations, Business Planning and risk appetite research. It is clear that the election of Mr. G. Provopoulos in the pinnacle of senior management at Piraeus Bank S.A. further enhances the Bank''s management team.
Mr. Provopoulos has served as Chairman and Managing Director of Emporiki Bank from 2004 to 2006, Financial Advisor of Alpha Bank from 1994 to 2004, and Deputy Governor of the Bank of Greece from 1990 to 1993.
He has also served as Chairman of the Economic Experts Council, Chairman of the Centre of Planning and Economic Research (KEPE) and General Manager of the Foundation for Economic and Industrial Research (IOVE).
He has participated as fellow in international organizations and committees, among which the Monetary Committee of the European Union, from 1990 to 1993. Mr. Provopoulos is 56 years old. Since 1979, he has been a professor in the Department of Economic Studies at the University of Athens. He is married and has three children.
