"Electronic signature" : data in electronic form which are attached to other electronic data or logically associated with them and which serve as a method of proving authenticity.

"Advanced electronic signature" or "digital signature" : electronic signature that satisfies the following conditions:

  1. it is uniquely linked to the signatory,
  2. be able to define specifically and exclusively the signer's identity,
  3. is created using means that the signatory can maintain under his sole control;
  4. it is linked to the data to which it relates in such a manner, so that it can identify any subsequent alteration of such data.

"Signer" ("Publisher" or "Subscriber"): a natural or legal person who holds a signature-creation device and acts either in his own name or in the name of another natural or legal person or entity.

"Signature-creation Data» (private key): unique data, such as codes or private cryptographic keys, which are used by the signatory to create an electronic signature.

"Signature creation device" means configured software or hardware used to implement the signature-creation data (private key).

"Secure-signature-creation device" (e.g., smart card): signature-creation device which meets the requirements of annex III. (pp: similar to both pieces of legislation).

"Signature-verification data» (public key): data, such as codes or public cryptographic keys, which are used for the verification of the electronic signature.

"Signature-verification Device" means configured software or hardware used to implement the signature-verification data (public keys).

«Certificate» : electronic attestation which links signature-verification data (public key) to a person and confirms his identity.

"Qualified certificate" means a certificate which meets the requirements of annex I and shall be issued by a certification-service-provider who fulfils the conditions laid down in Annex II. (pp: similar to both pieces of legislation).

"Certification Service Provider" a natural or legal person or other entity, that issues certificates or provides other services related to electronic signatures.

"Key Pair": Unique combination of public and private key that offer between the asymmetric encryption.

"Private Key": The key of the pair which remains secret and under the exclusive control of their owner.

"Public Key": The key of the pair who certified the association with any natural or legal person or object (web server, software, etc.) and disseminated to third parties.

"Final Entity»: Natural or legal person, or an object that represents the Lord, who is receptive to be associated with an asymmetric key pair and the appellant in a Certification Services Provider to acquire any of the supplied types of electronic certificates for public key.

«Subscriber»: The end entity certificate requested and after the required identity verification process, they acquired the requested certificate from the Certification Services Provider.
